Anyone see Prestige? SPOILER?

Were you disapointed like me when the clone machine came into play, a little far fetched huh? Also was Alfred (Bale) a clone or a twin I remember something about he used the machine once, and how did Cutter (? the old guy) come into play was he on Alfred's side too? Iam confused....
